Negotiate value, not ego
Strong negotiators in MENA markets stay warm and precise. They anchor on market data, role scope, and total compensation — base, housing, transport, education, bonus, equity, and relocation.
Do the research before the call
- Collect 3–5 comps for the same level/city/industry
- Convert currencies carefully and note benefits
- Decide your walk-away number privately
- Prepare a range, not a single figure
When they ask “What are your expectations?”
Try: “Based on market data for this level in [city] and the scope we discussed, I’m targeting [range]. I’m flexible on mix across base and benefits if the overall package is competitive.” Then stop talking.
If the offer is low
Thank them, restate enthusiasm, and ask which parts of the package are flexible. Propose a bridge: signing bonus, earlier review, learning budget, or clearer promotion criteria. Get the final terms in writing.
Practice the conversation
Salary talks feel awkward until you rehearse them. Use a Muqabaleh salary negotiation mock to practice calm tone, concise ranges, and follow-up questions before the real offer call.
